Green Travel ...

We all have the choice when it comes to travelling, most prefer the isolation of their own car. When it comes to travelling or holidays, do we think of the carbon emmissions we create.

Alternative holidays these days are on the increase, from activity weekends to boating trips, all of which are low in carbon emmitting gases. The great advantage of these holidays are the way it combines so well with other activities – Cycling, walking, sight seeing or riding, for instance – and can fit in with bus or train travel plans too, making it ideal for the eco-friendly holiday traveller.

Sales of the large four-wheel drive vehicles are now falling, as drivers are starting to embrace the green revolution. Eco-friendly motoring must be a priority.

• Remember to turn your engine off if you are stuck in traffic for more than 5 minutes.
• Duel-fuel cars are becoming popular. They alternate between 2 fuel sources. Some vehicles use petrol mixed with ethanol.  Some carry gas canisters.
• “Hybrid” cars use both electric power and internal combustion. 
• Bio-fuels are available. Some diesel-powered cars can run on biodiesel. This is fuel that is made room vegetable oil.  Vehicle modifications may be necessary.
• Solar powered cars obtain their electric from solar panels. At the moment solar powered cars do not offer an efficient form of transport as they cannot provide enough power from the solar panels to provide adequate performance. Hopefully this matter will be dealt with in the future.
