Green in the home...

Households and businesses all over the country have embraced Britain's recycling revolution. Many councils now have weekly recycling collections. This means that glass, paper, aluminium and other materials can be reused, saving energy and resources, rather than ending up in landfill sites, which are a major source of greenhouse gases.

On average, everyone in the UK throws away their own body weight in rubbish every seven weeks. Things are improving, in 2005/6 households in England recycled 27% of waste - thereby exceeding the government target of 25%. That means each year every person in England is recycling enough to fill nine green wheelie bins, equal to taking 3-5 million cars off the road.

Millions of people in Britain have changed their habits to help save the environment. We still need to do more... and the good news is that being 'green' is now trendy, with more of us recycling and being energy and water efficient too.
